How much does Apple MDM cost? Licences, set-up and operations

The per-device licence is only part of the cost. Set-up, ongoing operations and sometimes security add-ons come on top. Here is what the common solutions cost and how to estimate the total realistically.

The three cost blocks

  • Licences: monthly per device, usually billed annually with minimums.
  • Set-up: one-off. Apple Business, identity provider, profiles, apps, security policies and a pilot phase.
  • Operations: ongoing. Approving updates, packaging new apps, onboarding and offboarding, reports and support.

List prices of common solutions

The prices below come from the vendors’ websites or, where none are published, from third-party sources. They are in US dollars excluding VAT, as of October 2026. Always request a current quote before deciding.

SolutionPrice per device per monthNotes
Apple Business (built-in)freebasic features; according to Apple in more than 200 countries
Mosyle Business FreeUSD 0up to 30 devices; check the feature set with the vendor
Mosyle Business PremiumUSD 1Mac, iPhone, iPad, Vision Pro; annual, from 30 licences
Mosyle FuseUSD 3 per Mac, USD 1.50 per iPhone/iPadMDM plus security, patch management and identity; annual, from 30 licences
Jamfon requestthird-party sources cite around USD 10–12.50 per Mac for the “Jamf for Mac” bundle; prices vary
Iru (formerly Kandji)on requestquote depends on device count and modules
Licence prices are only partly comparable. Mosyle Business Premium is pure MDM, while Mosyle Fuse and Jamf for Mac include security and identity features. Compare bundles with the same scope.

Costs that are often forgotten

  • Minimums: with a 30-licence minimum, a team with 15 devices still pays for 30.
  • Endpoint protection: if your bundle has no antivirus or EDR, a second licence comes on top.
  • Your own people’s time: when someone does IT on the side, that working time is rarely counted.
  • Switching cost: changing MDM later takes project time. Since macOS, iOS and iPadOS 26 it works without wiping, but not without planning.
  • Audits: ISO 27001 or TISAX® need reports. If your MDM lacks them, you do the work manually.

Example: 20 Macs and 20 iPhones

A team with 20 Macs and 20 iPhones, calculated with the list prices above:

OptionLicences per monthLicences per year
Apple Business (built-in)USD 0USD 0
Mosyle Business Premium (40 × USD 1)USD 40USD 480
Mosyle Fuse (20 × USD 3 + 20 × USD 1.50)USD 90USD 1,080

Set-up and operations come on top. Set-up is a one-off project whose scope depends on existing accounts, apps and security requirements; operations are ongoing. Ask for a quote with a clearly described scope rather than comparing licence prices only.

Which option pays off when

  • Up to about 10 devices, no evidence requirements: the built-in management in Apple Business can be enough.
  • Growing teams with security requirements: a dedicated MDM with reporting pays off, often through the time it saves alone.
  • Audits and regulated industries: bundles with security, patch management and evidence save effort for ISO 27001, TISAX® and NIS2.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Apple MDM free now?

The device management built into Apple Business has been free since April 2026. Dedicated MDM solutions still cost a licence per device, but offer more features and evidence.

Why do prices differ so much?

Because the bundles include different things. Pure MDM is cheap; bundles with endpoint protection, patch management and identity features cost more but often replace other licences.

Are prices available in CHF or EUR?

Mosyle publishes prices in US dollars. Resellers and partners often bill in local currency. Ask for a quote in your currency including VAT.
